St. Agnes School Advisory Council Minutes
November 19, 2013
6:30 p.m.
Roll Call: The
meeting was called to order at 6:32 p.m.
Present: Layne Schulz, Jessica
Preister, Fr. Fischer, Becky Thomas, Carrie Roerig, Katy Ederer and Darla Hamm.
Absent: Wes Christiansen, Deb
Gapp
Approval of the Agenda:
Jessica moved and seconded to approve the agenda.
Approval of the Minutes: Jessica moved and seconded to
approve the minutes for October.
Principal Report:
Mrs. Hamm reported that the Catholic Schools Week Dinner will be on
Sunday, January 26th.
They will be having Advent Services in the gym on Wednesday mornings.
Student Council is selling chocolate Advent calendars again this year.
The Christmas Music Program is scheduled for Wed., December 11, at 7:00
p.m.
Teacher Report:
Highlights from Mrs. Roerig’s report were:
Preschool is learning about turkeys and the wonderful people and stuff
that they are thankful for. The
Kindergarteners are making log cabins, wetus, canoes and Mayflower replica; they
made cards for the military and Care Center.
The 1st graders are preparing for their Thanksgiving Breakfast
with their families next week. 2nd
grade is learning about adding and subtracting two-digit numbers; they just
finished learning about the Holy Trinity.
The 3rd graders are working on multiplication and point
graphs. The 4th grade
students just finished their animal unit and reports; they dissected owl pellets
last week; they have Richard Rasmussen in this week for Junior Achievement.
The 5th grade class will present their program on gratitude;
they are finishing their explorers
unit and are starting their unit on properties of matter.
Red & Gold Report:
Mrs. Thomas reported that they will be hiring 4 new staff members.
Their themes for December are angels, Jesus, Christmas and charity.
They have two weeks of planning complete for summer 2014.
PTSA Report:
PTSA is paying for the 4th and 5th graders to attend an
Advent Retreat at the Monastery in Yankton on Thur., Dec. 5.
They are preparing for the 4th Annual Breakfast with Santa.
The next PTSA Meeting is scheduled for Tue., Dec. 3rd.
Financial Report:
Jessica noted that we need to move the Golf Outing to Special Events,
#3142.

Matt Knutson has been formally asked by Fr. John.

Magazine/Cookie Dough Report:
Great American
Opportunities (magazine and cookie dough sales) has made about $11,000.

Fall Festival
Report: The Fall Festival made about
$6,000 for both the Parish and the School; this is up a little bit from last
year.
·
Common Core State Standards Update:
Darla handed out the letters with the information that she had shared
with the School Advisory Council last month about a response to the Common Core
State Standards.
New Business:

Campaign/Building Update:
Fr. John gave an update to the Campaign for St. Agnes and where we are in
the building process.
Executive Session:
There was no need for executive session
