St. Agnes School Advisory Council Minutes

April 15, 2014

6:30 p.m.

 

Roll Call:  The meeting was called to order at 6:33 p.m.  Present:  Layne Schulz, Jessica Preister, Wes Christensen, Deb Gapp, Matt Knutson, Fr. John Fischer, Becky Thomas, and Darla Hamm. 

Approval of the Agenda:   Deb moved to approve the agenda with addition of Chairs for the Gym under new business, Jessica seconded.

Approval of the Minutes:  Jessica moved to approve the minutes for March, Deb seconded.

Principal Report:  Mrs. Hamm reported the only fundraiser remaining for the year is the golf outing.  We need to take a look at the budget to see if we still need the funding, if not we would like to cancel it for this year, and give it a break. Summer renovations include:  windows, lights, shelves in the classrooms; flooring and lighting in the hallway; boys and girls bathrooms.  They will also begin ground work for the school addition this summer. Dakota STEP Science Testing is complete for 5th grade, they will be mailed soon.  The Smarter Balanced Assessments are going well. 

 

Teacher Report:  Highlights from Mrs. Taylor’s report were accidently shredded by Mrs. Hamm before she got the chance to type them in the minutes.  Sorry! L

Red & Gold Report:  Mrs. Thomas reported that they did get the Smart Board and the projector will be here soon.  10 and 12 preschool students enrolled for next year.  The City is doing something different for the summer Parks & Rec sign-up.  They will be hiring one more employee to help with the summer.  They received hermit crabs from The Ramada and they are raising them.

PTSA Report:  PTSA just finished hosting the St. Agnes School Classic on March 29, 2014.  PTSA will be planning for Teacher Appreciation Week the beginning of May.  PTSA will host an End of the School Year Dance on Tue., May 20, from 5:30-7:00 p.m.  Future business includes:  Co-President Election, 2014-15 schedule.

Financial Report:  March financial statements were reviewed.  Questions on line item #3142.

Old Business: 

·        Parish Subsidy Request:  Mrs. Hamm submitted the subsidy request letter to Fr. John to share with Finance Council.

·        Parent Service Hours:  Mrs. Hamm shared the    

·        2014-15 Tuition:  Mrs. Hamm shared the new rates that were decided on at the March meeting.

New Business:

·        Calendar:  Jessica moved to approve to make up the one snow day with a teacher workday, no students.  Matt seconded, all were in favor. 

·        St. Agnes School Classic Report:  All of the expenses are not in yet, but the expenses should be around $5,000.  We deposited over $30,000, so the profit should be over $25,000.

·        Contracts:  The Diocese created new teacher contracts that will be used this year.

·        USD Student Teacher:  Stacie Kjelden will be student teaching the first semester with Mrs. Koppang in 2nd grade.  Minji Cho will be with Mrs. Crowley from August until October.

·        Proposed Budget for 2014-15:  Postponed until next meeting, or Jessica and Darla will e-mail it out. 

·        Chairs for the Gym:  Mary Hamm is working on writing a grant to the Vermillion Chamber to use to purchase new chairs for the gym.  We have talked to Knights of Columbus, Catholic Daughters, and Red & Gold about helping with the project of purchasing new chairs.  With the school and the other organizations contributing the cost should be reasonable.

Executive Session:  There was no need for executive session.

Adjournment:  The meeting was moved to adjourn by, seconded by at 7:25.

The next meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, May 19, 2014, at 6:30 p.m.
